Cheers to the final years

Anyone who is going into their junior or senior years in college, this is our thread. Post the things you are most excited about, the things you most fear, plans for after graduation, and, seniors (yeah, class of 2011!) best senior moments. =)

For me, my fear is finding a job, considering the internship I want to go for I'm not eligible for another year to apply for. I hope to get a child care or nannying job in the meantime, working of loans until I can apply for the internship (child life specialist).

Best senior moments to come, as the year progresses. =D

Hmm Juniors welcomed? Yes!

Most excited about: Studying abroad in England or Belgium (hopefully) in the Spring!
Fear: Starting the whole grad school application process soon so I can become a certified Speech Language Pathologist! And getting accepted somewhere
Plans: Grad school! Or if not, I’ll look for an internship and a part time job and reapply a year or two later if I don’t get accepted anywhere.

I’m going back for my senior year after taking off a semester. I realized that if I won’t return now, I might not get a Bachelor’s degree for many years. I’m excited about meeting new professors who love the subject I’m interested in. I dread making plans for what to do after undergraduate, because I have no fahcking idea and the uncertainty makes me very anxious.

lostanddelirious, that’s kind of how I’m feeling. I’m not going on to grad school yet, even though my whole family is not being understanding of that decision.

I wish I could have traveled abroad, but I didn’t have the time or the money. =(

I think I could be happy with a nannying job for a year or so until I can apply for my internship.

I’m pretty excited for just being a senior in general, particularly senior-specific events. =D

If you like kids and feel like you missed out on studying abroad, I suggest you look into becoming an au pair for that year. A foreign family pays for your living expenses while you get to experience their culture. I’m sure that being a native English speaker with an education will make you quite a competitive applicant.

Good idea. Any suggestions on how/where to look into that? I will have a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Biology so that will possibly help with getting into child care.

I told myself if I didn’t get into grad school right away, I would apply to become an au pair in France!

I see that STA travel had a program you could apply to. You just have to have daycare experience or experience with children for letters of references :)

I have some child care experience from high school, but I may look into sitting for someone during the school year this year.

If you don’t speak a foreign language, I would suggest looking into countries where English is spoken by the majority of the population, i.e. Germany, Netherlands or Sweden/Denmark/Norway.

I really like the idea of doing an au pair job. I considered that out of high school as a way to raise money for college but ended up going straight to school. I could go to Spain! (In my research of au pair work before, I’d read that a lot of families want someone who can work with their children on their English!)

I just can’t wait to start setting up my “adult” life. I am just about over college. I felt this way senior year of high school too, I was ready for college as a junior. I have done so much setting up, getting my degree, saving money, figuring out what I want, finding my fiance, figuring out where we want to live and how, I just want to go and DO it already. But I had a pretty lame first year at my university (I transferred from a CC after two years, so my junior year was sort of like freshman year all over again) so maybe this year will be tons better. I guess we’ll see. I hope I make some friends worth keeping in touch with this year. So far I feel like I only got like a third of what I was supposed to get from college.

I wish I had half your luck Ema. I switched my major and changed my mind about what I wanted to do with my life during my junior year, and I can’t seem to hold onto a guy to save my life, so congrats to you and your fiance lol.

I have a friend from high school who used to tell me how much she just wanted to “start life”. I never understood why she would want to rush her college years, but now that I’m getting so close to the end, I really do understand what she means.

I just want to go to grad school, get a job, find an apartment, and work. One shouldn’t rush life, but I really do want these last two years to go by fast. I’ll definitely cherish these last two years, but come graduation I will truly feel independent :D

i have 1 more semester

i’m going to devote a lot of effort toward finding a job, as that is my biggest concern. Don’t really have any plans other than finish my last 4 courses, find a job, and save money to pay off loans.

The part that sucks is when my dad acts like he’s disappointed that im not going anywhere with my life…I wanted to be a doctor from the time I was in 7th grade up til last year, so my pharmacist dad is struggling to accept that it’s my life and I will make it on my own and money is not something that’s most important to me.

I googled the Au pair thing, and apparently they only want females?

Ema, I feel the same way about getting a third of what I was supposed to get from college. Next year I will enter UNC as a junior. It will be my third college in four years so I am a “freshman” all over again. It will probably fly by and before I know it, I will be entering my second/last year while everyone else had their full college experience at Carolina. By now, I feel like everyone have figured out their college (what to expect, where everything is, easy/bad professors, etc), and what their goals are for the last two years while I’m just starting to figure it out. It’s just a rough transition when I have to deal with the LSAT and law school applications too.

To answer the questions…
Most excited about: I guess starting a whole new school!
Fear: Getting adjusted, rigorous classes, making important decisions for my future.
Plans: I will be keeping my fingers crossed that I will get into Duke, Vanderbilt or UNC law. If that falls through, I guess I will have to find a job position for the government? Scary thought.

Excited for: My apartment, playing a varsity sport, starting a new student group, executive member of a political group, being with my friends, backstreet boys, sublime and social distortion show, history of rock n roll class.

Not looking forward to having to do school work and go to class.

Fear: Not having enough time to do everything I want to do.

Plan: Graduate early, take an internship in DC or VA with YAL or intern for the PA congress, then go to law school in the fall.

BUMP… hehehe :D

arent you guys sad that you’ll leave all your friends [and maybe partying] behind when you finish college??!

^ Not really. People who are true friends will continue to keep in touch, by email, phone, facebook, etc.

Partying? I go only once a semester, usually to a friend’s house, like a small get-together. So, I won’t really miss it. I’m sure there will be more small get-togethers in my lifetime. I don’t really see college as the end of my social life, hahaha.
