I was just wondering whether it would be tacky or weird to bring a gift for your roommate on move-in day? I'm the type of person that enjoys putting together little gift baskets and cutesy presents like that. Has anyone ever heard of this before or experienced it? Thoughts? Thanks!

My suitemate’s mom brought each of the guys in our suite monogrammed towels and cups in addition to a couple posters for her son’s roommate. It’s not something that I personally would do, but if you want to do it, then go for it

I think irs sweet and you should defenetly go for it =)

Could be OK. Could turn out to be kind of weird. I would personally avoid it and put together something that you both could share.

Never heard anyone doing that before… Like Tufts said, perhaps bring something you two could share would be a better idea. I would give you a weird look if you were to give me a gift basket the first day we met and I’d probably feel bad for not returning a gift at the same time.

I think it would be weird. Although I’m like you and like giving my friends cute little gifts and whatnot for no reason sometimes and put together baskets for bigger occasions, they are my friends and I do it because I love them. Why would you give your new roommate, someone you’ve never met before a gift at move in?

If you must do something, get one of those like popcorn buckets and fill it with candy and maybe like 2 20oz bottles of pop and be like hey, I thought it would be fun if we watched a movie together or something and have a movie night as some roommate bonding. I think that’d be a cool idea and I’d think my new roommate was really friendly and nice to SHARE.
