My son is starting Tufts as a CS major and pre health. How difficult is the the Chem 01 class with Professor Sergiy
Kryatov?
Is this a hard class for his first semester? Do you recommend Chem 01 or 11?
As a college freshman a student should be selecting his own courses.
Agree with @TomSrOfBoston, but I found Chem 1 challenging. Chem 2 is harder, but honestly if your son wants to be prehealth then he’s going to need to take the class regardless of whether or not it’s tough. Tell your son to talk to his orientation leaders and ask them for advice about what a reasonable courseload is for his first semester. You shouldn’t be making these choices for him.
It depends what his background is from high school. If he took AP chem and did well on it then chem 01 will be too easy. My son had the same dilemma 4 years ago and ended up taking chem 11. And it was the best thing he ever did. It pretty much set his career path and med school applications. The class size in chem 11 is very small. And the professor brings guest speakers. My son picked up a great research for the rest of his 4 years at Tufts from one of the guest speakers. By the end of chem 12 most kids were involved in some kind of research.
