So I think I'm stuck with the 8am chem class. Oh well. Now my choice is between either List or Lukehart. Any opinions between those two?

someone gave me this site: RateMyProfessors.com
It’s a good resource if there’s a lot of ratings on the professor you’re looking at, but usually there’s only a few. And many times the profs aren’t listed. Still, give it a try, it might help.

I had List. He was OK. Can’t really say anything great or terrible about him. I don’t know anyone who had Lukehart though. Good luck with that 8am ; )

My S was also bumped out of 11AM Gen Chem to 8AM class with List. Is there a way to get out of this or is it hard? He also had a bump of Calc review class to Thursday 8AM. This means he has 8AM 4 days a week. He has been kind of thrown around. He is now in a Woman’s African Am Writing seminar and he is a white male. He does not seem to be too shaken up about that as much as his 8AM classes.

I know I’ve posted this before but again…

There has only been one class at Vandy that I have no been able to get the right section/time/class that I wanted. BUT you need to stay on top of dates and times and be really proactive about getting what you want. There is NOOO reason that you have to stay in any 8am class, especially a huge lecture like genchem. It’s not even August yet and there is still going to be a lot of movement between classes. If you don’t have a problem with 8am, that’s fine, but honestly you do not have to settle for this.

KEEP CHECKING OASIS! Not as much now, because people aren’t really moving in and out of classes…but this is especially important the first week of school. Big lecture classes will DEFINITELy open up at some point, especially genchem. You just have to be checking oasis, waiting for openings. Also there is a waitlist period that begins the first day of classes at 8am, so get on the waitlist! Also, you need to update your waitlist status every 24 hours or you get bumped off of it and it might be full and therefore you cannot get back on.

You can also email the professor. This has worked for me on several occassions. Just explain why you really really want to take the class blah blah all of that.

I still have 2 classes I want/need to get into…but I’m not even really stressing about it because chances are they are going to open up at some point, and I’m going to be there to add the class.

ibn- i would advise him to try to get into another, wait for openings…or take one next semester. I think theres a way on oasis to do a quick search for open fresh seminars. try doing the command “show open sem”

another note-

a lot of my friends/roommate pretended that 8ams were okay and they would just make themselves get up. they also use the excuse, well i got up at 7am in highschool.

WELL most of the time they didnt get up and end up missing a bunch of lectures. You end up staying up a lot later in college and not wanting to wake up anywhere near the hour of 8am. Missing class/lectures really can affect your grades. I know some kids say they didnt attend a class and got __ grade. But going to class helps a lot, especially if you pay attention and do readings beforehand. If you really are a morning person go for the 8ams…but if you aren’t don’t lie to yourself- you will regret it all semester

I personally think List is awesome! Same goes for his wife, Prof. Rosenthal

Thanks Nicole for your response. I will encourage him to stay on oasis. Sounds like you sure have the hang of it. Perhaps you should start a small business on the side and charge a fee for service to get others into the class and schedule they want???
