chem 14 series

What textbooks are you guys using in chem 14b or 14c. I want to know if its the same textbook as the full chem 14a textbook. And in which course of the series do you actually have to use the model? Thanks.

You can just go to the registrar website (<a href="http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule%5B/url%5D">www.registrar.ucla.edu/schedule</a>) and look them up whenever you want since they might vary depending on the professors. I doubt 14c uses the same textbook as 14a/b since a/b are gen chem while c/d are o-chem.

Looks like for 14b they use atkins chemical principals while in 14c they use Vollhardt Organic Chem Structure & Function

And models aren't needed until you start o-chem so 14c

Alright, cool. Thanks for the infor on the registrar site.

i was wondering...how much do used chem 14a books usually go for..because i know someone that wants to sell me their used copy and i dont wanna get ripped off as most freshman do

you can compare it to the listed used price in the student store as a guide (of course his should be less than even that used price)

I don't think the ones from the student store are available used yet. Its a new 4th UCLA custom edition. The only old ones I've seen were 3rd editions. But maybe I am wrong. The student store doesn't have any old ones for this 4th custom edition.

is anybody desperately willing to give up a chem 14a book for winter quarter? i am looking for aikins chem princ: 4th w/ model kit..

model kit?! explain that.

nvm about the models. i just read the above post.

I believe models do help for stereochem in 14B.

will there be a huge difference between the material in the 3rd and 4th edition?

dawritingmachine: I'm selling my 14A book WITHOUT the model kit for less than the $63 the bookstore is charging (the price itself is negotiable but I can tell you right now it will be more than $32 and less than $52). PM me if you're interested.

Wangdirty30: someone in my 14A discussion had the 3rd edition and they found that some of the homework problems were different. I think the text was pretty much the same.
