can I have some feedback on how strictly chem 1A labs are graded? 154 of the 300 non exam points are from labs, so they seem very important.

I think it depends on your GSI. When I took it last spring, my GSI graded the lab reports based on how you calculated the data instead of its accuracy. For the formal lab write-ups, a grading rubric was provided so as long as you nail everything on it, you’ll do fine.

By lab write ups (vs formal reports), do you mean the questions in the lab manual?

Yeah, that can get a little confusing. My GSI called the ones in the lab manual “Lab Reports” and the write-up ones “Formal Lab Write-Up”. I don’t think it really matters what you call it, as long as you do them.

both the questions in the lab manual and the full lab write-ups. i know we only have two full ones, but knowing how strictly they are graded would be good before i do them. for this first lab there are questions and calculations involved. are they graded based on accuracy or if we just completed them?

^do you know if we do the questions/calculations in the lab manual itself, and rip out the pages to turn in, or do we have to type them up separately?

the questions and calculations should be done in the lab manual (not the notebook with carbon copies). when youre done you just rip them out and turn them in like that.
