Im taking Chem 1A and Math 9c this fall quarter and I was wondering how hard are these classes? Im not sure what to expect during my 1st quarter and I need advice.

the difficulties of chem 1A depends on the professor and the class (test difficulties b/c of professor, and grade curve b/c of class assuming there is a curve). can’t give much opinion on math 9c since i haven’t taken it, but for chem 1A, u better hope u don’t get Ludwig Bartel (i doubt he is allow to teach that again but u can’t be too sure about these). But overall chem 1A should be easy (to me the entire chem 1 series was, for the most part, easy)

^ I agree. I had Bartels for Chem 1B, and that was the only class that I’ve gotten an A- in. I might’ve been lucky to even get that. Just for a perspective, I’ve just recently gotten two A+s in the organic chemistry classes I’ve just taken last year…if you get another professor, it’ll be no sweat.

^ LOL a fellow Bartel’s victim huh, is he still teaching?

I have Ziegler for Chem and I don’t know who my math one is yet. Do you know what type of class math 9c is like what level calculus?

Also haha438, what is your gpa cuz when you say easy it could mean that your a genius and pass the class.

Math 9C is essentially calculus pertaining to series (Power, Taylor, etc.). If you’ve taken Calculus BC in high school, then this class is basically just that. As for me, I’m taking the exact course load as you and would have wished I was given Math 10A (Multi-variable calculus) instead of taking Math 9C, which in my opinion, is the same load of bull I took last year in high school, so why retake? Also for anyone wondering, I did pass the BC exam with a 5, and easily if I may add. That’s why I feel so negative about taking Math 9C.

As for chemistry, I really don’t know since I’m an incoming freshman. But I do know that I’m getting a professor named Eichler; anyone know if this guy is good?

@ Integral7 Do you know if all Math 9c classes use the same textbook or not? And also what textbook did you use for Math 9C?

Additionally, what book do we use for chemistry 1A?

@blazing00p, my gpa has been in the high 3.4 to mid 3.5 range, so i would say it is decent but not great
@integral7, eichler is one of those great chem professor (had him for 1B and crashed in his course for 1C). he makes the lecture very interesting and give quite a few extra credit for midterm or final if u r quick enough to answer his in class questions (gives out about 2 points for midterm/final for those few ppl, which is still a lot). one problem for his class is NO CURVE (at least for mine), so watch out for that.
