<p>Because there are fewer lab spaces than lecture seats. Think about availability: lecture is easy to seat a ton of people. Lab spaces are much more limited, time is much more restricted (4 hours per lab vs. 1 or 1.5 hours per lecture). You’ll meet a good number of students in lab who took lecture before but couldn’t get into a lab and so are taking lab later.</p>
