chem 1al/ math1a

I took chem 1a during the fall, didn't pass the course but passed (not letter grade) lab. Should I retake it? I'm not sure if it's necessary, but I'm going pre-med and my intended major is public health. Also I took math 1a ended with a C, I am not too happy with that grade is there any way I can take the equivalent course to math 1a at a community college back home so I can replace that grade?

Unless you AP passed out of chem, you will generally need 1 year of intro chemistry, and 1 year of organic chemistry - so yes, you should retake. Also, you may want to check with your major as to whether it allows you to take these courses P/NP. And, I think that even if you did retake math 1a, all that would happen is it would show up twice on your transcript, not erase/replace the first grade.

I’m retaking chem 1a this semester, but not the lab section… is there anyway I can take it during fall 2012 without being enrolled in the lecture? Or would it be better that I take it over the summer, the summer is a bit complicated for me because of financial issues.

Medical schools will want to see all grades from all college courses you ever took; how Berkeley calculates grade point average with respect to repeated courses is irrelevant to how the medical schools calculate grade point averages.

Grades from other colleges that are not other UC campuses are not included in Berkeley grade point average.
