I am an incoming freshman and I got a 74 on the ALEKS test. You need a 75 to enroll in Chem 2045. I took it again and worked much faster cause it said the time you take on each question affects your score and the first time I took it i spent A LOT of time on each question so thats why I thought I got a 74. Anyways I got a 66 which means I have to enroll in the pre-req class. I know I am capable of getting above a 75. I am going to study a lot then take it again. Even if I haven’t had chemistry since 10th grade can a student like me who loves math and is very good at Cal AB and BC succeed in Chem 2045?
While I’m only a rising freshman at the university, I’ve heard this questions lots of times on the UF Facebook pages (which you should join, you can get a lot of insight). They ALWAYS say that you should use the first time as an indicator for what you should enroll in. Therefore, I think any retake you do will carry less weight at preview. Especially considering you did worse the second time around. I also heard that those classes have a reputation of being “weed out” classes, so it would probably be better to take the class that you didn’t test out of, since you haven’t had chemistry since 10th grade.
I hope this helped and good luck!
@GATORHOG01 My son took the ALEKS three times. He scored a 72, 63 and 93 on his third time. On the third attempt he took his time and his score reflected a significant improvement. I am not sure why the first two results were lower. As a reference, he scored at 780 on his math SAT section. Wait a few days and take the test again.
