they signed me up for 211 randomly. can i change it to 207 if i want to? from waht i hear, that dude crane is a kuku.

as long as you are not ChemE, you can take Chem 207 over Chem 211.

Chem 211 is chem for engineers. It takes the curriculum from 207 and most of 208 and crams it into one semester. It moves really fast and is pretty hard. Plus, everybody is an engineer and the professor sucks.

Chem 207 covers less and moves slower than 211. However, it is curved to a lower grade (B-) than 211, so it may be more difficult to get a good grade if you are fairly solid but not exceptional in chemistry.

Take your pick

I had Professor Crane for Chem 216. That was one b*tch of a class. Nice guy but assumed we knew too much.

I'm BEE & it says I can take either 207 or 211. For 207, the only prof listed is Marohn. He's not on ratemyprof - anyone know anything about him? Or anyother chem profs?

Even if Marohn sucks, it will probably be better than 211. 211 is a huge timesink, since it covers 3/4 of the material from the 207-208 curriculum in just one semester. Thus, it moves extremely fast. Unless you are very confident in your chem ability, it is probably better to take 207.

Ameechee - Thanks

I don't see why you have such negative impressions of Crane, harvardman1988. He may not be the most inspiring of lecturers, but I found him to be fair and clear when he taught 211; he was pretty much an average professor.
Also, while 211 covers way more material than 207, the material is also covered more superficially. You won't go into as much depth as you would have in 207/208. And one thing I liked about 211 was the lab reports--at most they were 1-2 pages long; I remember feeling sorry for the 207 kids who had to write full reports when all we usually had to do was answer a few questions.
Anyway, I got the impression that Crane knew we would have to cover way more material so the work he gave us seemed to be a lot less than it could've been.
