I'm taking Chem 3AL this semester, and I have a time commitment that clashes with the lecture on Wednesday from 5-6. I just wanted to know if it is really necessary to go to the lab lecture to do well in the class. Does Pederson post his notes online or anything? If I borrow my friends notes instead of going myself will I be completely lost?

You can probably get by with just borrowing notes from friends since everyone sleeps in lecture anyway. May want to go to a couple of the NMR lectures just to get it down. There is no final in the class, but the lab quizzes do include some lecture material FYI.

Thanks for the help : )

isn’t there a lab exam in the end?

If you take it during the school year, there are only lab quizzes and no final exam.

If you take it during the summer, THERE IS a lab exam in the end on lecture material which you can watch online.( I took it this summer.)

There was an NMR “exam” the last week of lab in the spring. It’s not that bad considering you work on a very similar worksheet the week prior with lab partners.

whosthat1234 is right. everyone sleeps in that lecture. I didn’t find pederson to be too helpful with NMR. I ended up having to learn it all on my own.

I never went to lab lecture and got an A-, so I don’t think you need to be there.
Does anyone know if the same can be said for 3BL?

For 3BL, I would say that it depends on the professor, but really the only reason to go is because lecture material pops up on the lab quizzes. Personally, I don’t really see the point of trying to learn it on your own.
