What'd you guys think of it? I didn't get any of the synthesis/mechanism questions :[

Failed. no joke.

aren’t those questions worth the most?

Yeah that’s why I don’t think I even got above 100 on this test. Man ochem is depressing.

harder than i expected but it should be doable… did u at least write something down? try retrosynthesis?

God, the answer key is up…

Whyyy would the post the key right before the weekend?
Now I have to sit here and wonder how many pity-points they gave me and how the curve’s gonna be…

Does anyone recall what the average and SD of this second midterm was?

The average was 144, std was 54. Did anyone else think the grading was fairly generous?

Yes, it was generous but the test itself was hard… i got 56/60 for my synthesis but 12/60 on mechanism -_-… its hard to score 1 SD above average when the SD is that large

It’s difficult to score 1 StDev above regardless of how big the StDev is. That’s part of what an StDev means.

yea haha… have to be top 15% to get above 1 SD… im just complaining about how smart the class is… was hoping for a bigger curve

I honestly don’t think it’s because the class is smart; I think it’s because most of us just aren’t trying hard enough.

Note that “us” includes me. I did well, but that’s largely because I got my ass in gear about 4 days out and spent most of last week doing NOTHING but practice problems.

Yeah, i think the problem is that most of us don’t do any practice problems until the midterm rolls around.

Oh no, I just checked my email and apparently effective today chem 3b is no longer required for my major. Thank you Bioengineering Department for notifying me after the p/np deadline.

@Lupirius: You’re aware that changing ANY technical class’s grading option to P/NP requires that you petition the department specifically to get it changed and that the odds of their signing off on it are astronomically low, right?

Changing 3B to a technical elective accomplishes nothing; they should have spent that time working on reducing the volume of the R&C requirement to more closely match that of CoC.

Actually I am not that upset that i took it. It should give me a nice technical gpa boost hopefully. But it really isn’t that hard to change a technical class to pass/no pass as long as it’s not required for the major. They pretty much approve everyone (at least every I know has been approved with no problem).

Has anyone gotten a C or below for a class that has to do with their major? Especially if you’re going premed? I’m doing pretty bad in one of my classes and the midterm is tomorrow. k i gotta go study bye!

I was under the impression that they turned down virtually everyone, but I guess not.

Given that it’s pretty much required for most of our upper-div coursework, it makes very little difference in terms of selection, though…
