Hi, I'm interested in getting a chemistry major and am currently a Spring Admit. I was wondering if it was possible to "survive" in Chem 4b before I took Chem 4a since Chem 4a isn't available during the spring semester.

The long sequences of chemistry prerequisites are:

4A-4B-104A-104B (108 or C150 as electives)
4A-4B-112A-112B (115 as elective)
4A-4B-120A-120B (125 required for BS degree, elective for BA degree)

So it looks like the long sequence is 5 semesters, so careful schedule planning should allow you to finish on time even if you start 4A in your sophomore fall semester.

You may want to ask the chemistry department for advice.

4A is not very necessary for 4B, but basic chemistry knowledge is definitely necessary. Did you take AP Chem in high school? If you did and remember the basics (stoichiometry, balancing equations, some simple thermodynamics), then you’ll probably be fine in 4B.

I took 4b while only taking honors chem in high school and did fine in chem 4b. i also only took chem 1a and not chem 4a prior to taking 4b(which is about mainly lab technique analysis)

if you feel as tho the material is hard, just make good friends in that class to do the homework and/or study for the midterms with
