Hey! I'll be taking Chem 6A this Fall, so I'm wondering which professor most people recommend? I'm debating between Carl Hoeger and Christina Johnson. Which one do you recommend and why? Thanks everyone!

Dr. Johnson and Dr. Hoeger are very good friends and their tests are around the same level of difficulty. They are also both very good good teachers.

I took three chemistry courses with Dr. Johnson, and I think she’s wonderful. She covers all of the concepts thoroughly and clearly, and she is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject matter. That being said, she speaks incredibly quickly, so watching her video podcasts after class and before midterms is a must.

Dr. Hoeger is also good. However, he tends to come across as slightly condescending. Decide whether you think that will bother you.

I’ve taken Hoeger for ochem, so I can’t say how he is in chem 6a, but he can come off as condescending as justmyview mentioned. He’s got a good sense of humor though, and does truly care for students’ learning. I was too intimidated to visit his office hours but I’ve heard he’s very helpful in them and not as much of a jerk as he may seem during lecture. His curve is real generous too, and his exams are very fair.

Hoeger and Johnson are both wonderful professors and you can’t go wrong with either. Hoeger is funny, and his attitude really is one big show he’s super nice at OH so don’t be afraid!
