How likely is it to be able to get into the course if the current waitlists for the discussion are all around 3-5?

i have a question about waitlists too. say we waitlist for the chem6a class/time we want, but enroll in a different chem 6a class that is open at the same time, and later if the waitlist opens up we drop the other one. is that possible, or no?

@jebs–most likely, about 10% of the class size can get in on a waitlist…so if the class is 300 then the first 30 people tend to get in

@chow–no. you cant sign up and be waitlisted for the same class at different times…you just have to pick the waitlist and wait, or enroll in the other one. I would suggest waitlisting unless you need the units for financial aid.

Not to add to the confusion, but under Advising and Enrollment it says:

You may not waitlist for a course in which you are already enrolled

You may enroll in a maximum of 19.5 units including waitlisted courses before the first day of classes

Beginning the first day of classes, you may enroll in up to 22 units - we recommend enrolling in 12 - 16 units

Assuming you’re going to want to take 4 classes during your first quarter, does that mean it’s not even possible to enroll in a backup and waitlist for the class/time that you want? (Assuming the backup timeslot and the waitlisted one are the same class)

Edit: Late post, question answered, thank you.

Also, my first question was in regards to discussions which are listed as having 30 seats, what would the chances be then? Around ~10% of the class size once again or would it be different?

^
i think BlueSkyPinkCloud said we cant enroll and waitlist in the same class–even if it’s different professor/time

i didnt know, so i asked.

quick question about the waitlist thing as well. so if we’re waitlisted for a discussion, do we still attend it or what?

you can if you want. none of the chem TAs i knew ever carried a roster. plus i think at any given time, half the students in my class weren’t even registered for my discussion.

depending on your professor you might have quizzes in your discussion…i did for two of my gen chem classes. discussions dont start (generally) until the second week, or after the first lecture

the time of day might effect your chances of getting in the discussion if they are required. having a 9pm chem discussion sucked major and a lot of ppl dropped it.

you can only enroll in up to 19 units before school starts. so yeah, you wont be able to enroll and waitlist 5 4 unit classes. On the first day of school webreg takes that unit cap off and sets it to 22 units, so at 7am webreg gets over run by students adding classes

k. so if im waitlisted at 5pm for a DI, do you think some people will drop out? and what do you think the chances of being #3 or #4 on the waitlist if i dont begin registration at 11:20 am tomorrow?
