Chem 6c v Phys 2a

Chem 6C vs Phys 2A
Atm, i'm torn between these two classes. For those of you who had read my post from 2 days ago, you'll know that i was waitlisted for johnson for chem 6c. Giving up all hope, I started going to the Kubiak lectures, assuming I wasn't going to get in Johnson after being on the waitlist at position #1 for a whole week. Lo and behold, I wake up to find that I'm off the waitlist but the problem now is i have already added phys 2a with dudko and they are both at the same time...

pros of chem 6c
-i feel johnson is a much better professor than kubiak in terms of teaching. ( went to a kubiak lecture and frankly, not my taste)
-Dropping physics 2a will lighten my load from 20 to 16 units.
-Chem is easier than physics from for me
-physics 2a DI/PB has minor conflicts with my schedule (not FINAL related)

pros of phys 2a
-I am retaking this class and it feels much easier than Schuller's
-Afraid of taking it next quarter with the "smarter" incoming freshmen >_>
-i am an engineering major... sooner or later, right?

Either way, i intend to take chem 6c this quarter (reason for the 20->16 units) just that i think johnson>kubiak. maybe not grade-wise, but I just feel I will learn a lot more from johnson. (plus i had her for chem 6a)

Take both. No lab => you should be able to handle the coursework. What other classes are you taking? GE’s can wait if these two are actual pre-reqs for other major courses.

had same dilemma, but instead with chem6b.
I ended up dropping physics2a. I plan on taking it at a CC which would be much easier to get an A.

Well it depends. I’ll assume you’re a freshman. Look if you start phys2a next quarter, You won’t be done w/ Phys 2ABC until end of sophmore year, which might delay your upper divs, look into it more closely. You need to plan ahead.
BTW taking 20 units is not advised, especially if 2 classes are at the same time.
Consider this:
Sign up for 6C with the not so good prof/sign up for 2a/drop another one of your classes/but attend the good 6c teacher’s lectures.

If you retake the class, does the second time around wipe the first grade? Do you have to actually fail the course to retake it?

A “F” or “D” will allow you to retake the class and wipe your previous grade out of gpa calculation. Unfortunately, the F or D will still be seen in your transcripts.

I really still can’t make a decisive choice between the 2. To answer some of the above questions/comments, yes I am retaking a lab and no I cannot take it at summer school because its part of my major requirements. Anyways, i went to the physics lecture (quiz) today instead of chem and I thought it was pretty easy. Still i’d really prefer Johnson over Kubiak. What do people think about me enrolling in kubiak but going to the johnson lectures. I keep hearing that undergrad courses are all the “same.” I just wish Kubiak had some credibility/reviews I can base my choice on.

The classes im taking btw are as follows:

math 20e, mcwp 50, chem 6c (johnson/kubiak), phys2a*, chem6bl, beng87

*drop?

I’m assuming you’re in bioe and a freshman. Drop Math 20E. You need Phys 2ABC done asap. You probably need 20E at some point, but wait a while. You’re not going to use it until upper division classes. Keep both chem 6c and phys 2a.
Certain upper div eng classes that you’ll take in sophmore year require 2 series physics completed.

Agreed. Drop 20E.

I know the time conflicts, but why not go to Phys 2A lectures, and buy Johnson’s Chem 6C Lecture Notes? (They’re currents, so whoever is taking notes is recording whatever goes on during the lectures you’re missing). You can give your clicker to one of your friends so you can get your RAD points, and just attend another professor’s lectures. (I heard Kubiak was really good, but perhaps you just didn’t like him, try Ghosh’s).

My friends & I all dropped Phys 2A last quarter because we heard Dudko was easier and that she teaches Spring quarters of Phys 2A :|
