Chem course selections...

Ok well, I'm an international student and i got placed into chem 114. Based on the description it says mor than half the people who previously did chem last did so as a sophomore. That's not the case for me though. I've been doing it for over 2 years now and a little organic chem too in that time. I;m wondering whether I should try to take the placement test or not to see whether I should therefore be in a higher class. The thing is, in all the hassle before the move to yale and everything, I won't get much time to revise more than likely and of course chem (...and everything else...)is kinda cloudy in my mind right now.

Also, I plan to place out of MCDB 120a and plan to take up a calculus course for math along with a language, preferably italian. I also want to take on physics though so I'm wondering whether or not I should just stick to chem 114 like they prescribed and then take on the load of 5 classes.

Ugh, so confused with everything... What do you guys think?

I last took chemistry as a sophomore but got placed in the 114 or 118 category. I did do well on math and science standardized testing. I would take the placement test if you really think you should be in 118 or higher. You still have three weeks to do a little review.

Thanks. That’s true. What class should I preregister for though?

I think you should definitely do Freshman Organic Chemistry (Chem 124/125). All it requires is a 50% on the placement exam, something anyone can do.

Isn’t that a pretty high placement though… Only a 50%?
