<p>But in California, the bulk of ChemE's in NorCal tend to go to the semiconductor industry, as much of that industry depends on chemical engineering. Andy Grove, the legendary former CEO of Intel and Time Magazine's 1997 Man of the Year, is a chemical engineer. </p>
<p>NorCal also has some oil refineries and petrochemical plants, but most of the California oil/petrochemical industry is located in SoCal and the Inland Empire, especially around Bakersfield.</p>
