Hi,
My question is: How recognized is washU's chemical engineering program, particularly in the job industry?

bumpyty bump!

can someone please answer this qn? thank you.

darkdrizzt - the reason no one is answering your question, I think, is because it is not a very good question. I know that sounds personal, and I don’t mean it to be. But employers, no matter what you hear otherwise, do not say “Oh, you went to Wash U and this guy went to Georgia Tech, so I am going to pick the other guy”. Wash U has an excellent reputation as a school, and people that know anything know that the kids that get accepted and go there must be very bright. Certainly Wash U will teach you all the same things any other engineering program will, and the fact that the other students are so smart will mean you will have to work hard to do well. That is the main thing. St. Louis has a decent chemical industry, and there will be plenty of opportunities to intern.

Don’t decide on Wash U or another school because you are trying to pick the one that will give you the best chance of getting a job when you are done. That is actually impossible anyway. Pick the school that fits you best, overall. Period. That is what really counts when you are talking about schools as good at everything they do as Wash U is.

agreeing with fallenchemist.

No University will give you a job. They have career centers to advise you, have companies interview, and post jobs. Wash U has an amazing career center and their advisors have been really helpful in my internship search.

One thing about the Chemical Engineering department here, is that it is actually part of the larger “Energy, Environment, and Chemical Engineering” department. All three of those disciplines are intertwined. So, you’re going to learn Chemical Engineering skills, but be a lot more appealing because you will also have a strong foundation in environmental sustainable ways to apply chemical engineering. This is something that will put you ahead of the pack and introduce a very current philosophy (environmental sustainability) to your major.

Thanks vbball. Excellent specifics that are interesting also. I didn’t know all that, it is a great way to run the program, IMO.
