Chem Honors

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what my chance would be at top universities without Chem Honors. I want to major in engineering (Environmental) and I want to see what my chances are. I did not take the class because I thought the teacher was going to be terrible and I am more into biology and environmental science? What are my chances withou chem Honors? Would taking AP Bio and APES or AP Physics help with becoming an environmental Engineer? Thanks

Also, I generally don’t like chemistry and would prefer biology and environmental science.

Have you already taken HS bio, chem, and physics?

I took HS Bio and chem. Biology Honors or Physics Honors is not offered at my school. I’m thinking of doubling up in science next year taking AP Bio and APES or AP Physics.

I’m also a sophomore prob taking Pre Calc or Pre Calc Honors next year with AP Stats, highest math my school has is AP Calc (AB is taught first semester and BC, second semester).

@happy1

Most colleges like to see a sequence of bio, chem, and physics taken in HS so I would be sure you have those three covered first.

What if I was aiming for selective schools like Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, Caltech @happy1

Should I worry?

@happy1

One non-honors class will not be the reason you are rejected, if that happens. Regardless, the decision was already made.No use second guessing yourself now.

Thanks @skieurope I was thinking it wouldn’t be that bad and now I understand that it doesn’t matter that much.

One other thing to consider is that you will most likely need to take chemistry in college for any engineering discipline. Having higher level chem in HS will help prepare you better. (Same for physics).

You are only a sophomore so I’m not sure why you don’t think you have time to take AP chem junior or senior year?

I know I have enough time for AP Chem @momofsenior1 I was just nervous and I want to aim Ivy League level. Also, I will be taking SAT II in math and science in August so I hope that helps me.

Should I really worry about this or no?

@momofsenior1

I already gave you my opinion. I think you should take AP chem.

I’m just saying it won’t affect my chances not taking the honors class, yes or no @momofsenior1 ?

I think for the selective schools you listed in post 7 that it can hurt you. Others might disagree but for an engineering major, I think you need chem.

I’m saying is it okay if I didn’t take the honors class but I took all other AP sciences, including AP Chem @momofsenior1 ?
