Do we need to get any materials for Chem lab 1? Like goggles, lab aprons, lap notebooks, etc.

You’ll need goggles (not glasses) as well as a lab notebook and lab manual, both of which you can get at the bookstore.

If I have an old lab notebook can I just use that instead of buying a new one? I probably only 5 or 6 lab reports in the notebook from high school. Thanks!

Not sure how they’re doing it now, but it used to be that you’d buy the lab manual (which has instructions & pre reports) & goggles through the chem department. I used the same lab notebook as I did in physics lab - one of the two had a strict requirement on notebooks, so I went with the more strict one and bought the bookstores (can’t remember which class it was though).

On courselistings, it appears that you are now being charged an automatic fee for the course. It’s not a fee you can get out of. It looks similar to what I paid my freshman year. Chances are this means that they’ll give you the goggles & manual & possibly a notebook.

Long story short: do not go out and buy anything now. Wait until you either get an email from the chem department or the first day of lab lecture.
It might be helpful to bring your high school lab notebook, but don’t be surprised if you aren’t allowed to use it.

You need to use a specific lab notebook which is provided only through Wash U. It has carbon copy pages so that you can keep an extra copy of your lab report after turning it in. Physics lab TAs tend to be fairly lenient but you cannot get away with using any other kind of Chemistry lab notebook.
