chem placement test?

first of all, if you've taken it, how difficult is it? i took AP chem last year, got a 4 on the exam, but honestly don't remember anything. what kind of stuff is on it?

you take this exam at orientation, right? and only if you have to take a chem class (like i'm in engineering, so i would...)... even though i took the AP exam? even if i don't do well on the placement test, could i still get credit because of my AP score (i'm pretty sure a 4 gets you out of 130, which is the general lecture, but not the lab)

I didnt remember anything or study for mine either. if I remember correctly, it was really basic qs with a few that I completely forgot how to do (like acid/base). But its pretty easy to do well, cuz 80% of the people you take it with have no idea what they’re doing

thanks…anyone else have some input?

I got almost a perfect on the chem placement test

It’s really easy…

yep its easy if you have basic chem knowledge. most questions can be done without a periodic table too

its relatively straightforward if you’ve done AP chem. but if anything, it doesn’t hurt to brush up your chem skills before orientation by reviewing a bit. if you get above a certain percentile on the placement, you get put into organic chem otherwise you get put into gen chem.

is it a requirement to take the chemistry placement test? i am 99% sure that i will just get placed into gen chem because i don’t remember ANYTHING from ap chem last year.

Where is it, I can’t find it?

^^ are you talking aobut where the placement test is? You take it at orientation on the 2nd day.
I’m pretty sure everyone at orientation is required to take the placement exam. if you don’t take it, your advisor will find out when you register.

Oh, okay…

Will I need to bring a calculator?

I don’t remember if we got to use calculators. but bring a small one just in case, I guess. when are u going to orientation? I remember going to orientation last summer. it was so fun.

Tomorrow…

the chem placement test is simple stuff. however, i would caution against taking organic chem in your first semester while you adjust to college life, etc. if you already know how to do the stuff on the placement test, chem 130 will be an easy A for you. it won’t put you at any kind of disadvantage to take 130 over orgo, so i recommend to just go ahead and pad your gpa…

^That’s what I was figuring (someone else gave me the same advice too), but I thought I should take it anyway just to keep my options open.

For anyone worried about it, the Chem placement test is REALLY easy.
