I'm a sophomore who is currently taking Chemistry Honors. Do you think I should take the subject test for Chemistry or is it geared more for AP Chem students?

Why would you even take it this year?

Definitely do not take it without AP.

I’d take it because I’m currently in Chemistry. Why wouldn’t I take it this year?

Thanks, I won’t take it this year and I will wait and take it if I ever take AP Chem.

Don’t listen to these fools…you can study for it easily with Honors Chem…

There’s only a few things you need to memorize, really. Just do practice tests, study from Barron’s, and you’ll be fine.

Can’t you just take AP Chem next year? I wouldn’t recommend taking the test after only taking the honors course.

Don’t listen to them! I’m a sophomore and I’m taking honors chemistry. I have a private tutor (she’s pretty low cost too) and we meet about at least once a week. I’m planning on taking it in June and studying so more and taking it again in like October. Honestly, you should look at your schedule and future schedule and determine what’s right for you. I know it’a cliche but you can do whatever you put your mind to! If you don’t plan on getting an instructor, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

Wait until AP Chem. You will do much better. The half the test is pretty much impossible if you don’t have the AP chem skills. Or maybe you could do it with just honors chem, but you would feel much more confident/comfortable with AP skills.

I thought the Chem SAT exam was pretty easy, it certainly pales in comparison to AP Chem. the only topics covered in SAT chem but not in honors chem is equilibrium (it’s pretty basic though on the exam), some basic kinetics, and random trivia (ie what’s the second most abundant element in the earth’s crust). I think there’s basic organic too (ie identify functional groups).

But you are a sophomore, there’s no need to take the SAT subject exams now.

i’m a freshman and i’m taking it this may (same day as state science fair, grrr)
i’m only taking an honors course but it’s like an AP course by comparison to my local public school (I go to a private school).
You don’t need tutors or anything like that, imo. Just study by doing a lot of test prep books. Barrons is pretty good. Also you should try taking out test prep books in your local public library. Hopefully the library people will keep well-known, good test materials.

I’m considering it because I’m also taking a subject test for math because I’m currently taking PreCalc Honors

I waited till I finished my AP course then took it right after.

But that’s just me. I would advise the same to you. But if you’ve felt like you can do it, by all means, go for it. Good luck.

All SAT subject tests are well below the level of the corresponding APs, so you can do it with honors chemistry easily.

Ok I will definitely consider taking it now.
