Hi guys, I'm going to be a freshman in the fall. Just looked online and Chem 1A and the lab is completely full! Is this really going to set me back? Any input would be appreciated!

That is just the equilibrium of this school. In my personal experience and some friends have had their whole first quarter be worthless because the classes were full. Howeverrrrr, if its required for your major, you might be able to crash the class. If its super important for your major, you can email the professor (if there is no wait-list available to sign up for) & they may give you an add-code.

Yeah it is required for my major
I guess I’ll be taking GEs my first quarter. This sucks haha

If its a large class, I’m almost sure you’ll be able to crash it… Put your name on the wait-list immediately to secure a position. https://waitlist.ucsb.edu/

can i do this even though i haven’t had my orientation yet??

Not to panic yet.

Many incoming frosh need to take the intro Calculus, Chem, etc. classes and so the likely reason they are full is that space has been reserved to give out during Orientation. I doubt there is that much demand from continuing students to fill 1st year classes like Chem 1A; if you needed it for your major you would have taken it already.

Each Freshman Orientation session provides the same in-depth academic advising and fair access to course enrollments. Orientation Programs distributes available class space in appropriate freshman courses equally throughout the Orientation sessions.

Mikemac is right they reserve spaces for incoming freshman ESPECIALLY for Chem. It’s full to continuing UCSB students.
