So I was planning to take AP chem next year (junior) as a prep for subject test, but it turns out there is an overenrollment for AP chem, so I might not get in. Question is, if I take normal chem, will I be prepared for the chem subject test? I'm aiming for 750+, ideally 800

Several people took the subject after the honors course and got 750+ (i think). In my case, our honors teacher, who happens to be the AP teacher, talk us nearly everything without “AP” attached to the course title. I think if you prepare with prep books, you’ll be fine. A lot of people self-study for difficult subjects and they get good results. Also for you, the topic won’t be brand new if you are taking a chem class, albeit not the AP. So, hope for the best to be in the class. But if not, read your text book and self-study.

You don’t need a class that is called “AP” to score well, but you do need a course that teaches the material. So if you have taken a class that teaches all of the topics covered in an AP chem class you should be fine. Your class doesn’t need to go very in depth into the topics, but an overview is crucial.

My recommendation is to take a chem class and supplement it with a chem SAT II subject test review book. (Assuming that you don’t get into AP chem).

Hm…I’m not too sure if normal chem at my school will cover everything. I have a feeling it wont…I guess I’ll just hope that I get into AP chem…if not, I’ll have to self study then
