Hey, so i'm deciding between CMU and UMASS Amherst for chemical engineering. CMU obviously has the better reputation, but i heard that it doesn't really matter which engineering school you go to since both curriculums are ABET-accredited and the differences in job prospects and potential salary are minimal. With that being said, should I just save the money and go to UMASS Amherst?

-according to this table, WPI and CMU grads have about the same salaries, so that should be true for UMASS and CMU too.

Seriously wpi and cmu two very different can’t believe all these surveys. cmu is #13 amherst #27 it depends how much more cmu is?

I really don’t find that graph credible. Wonder how/where they got that data?

And WPI’s engineering ranking is around 30-40 ranks below CMU, 40-50 below MIT. I’m to believe all those schools in between fall short of WPI’s starting salaries? You have a link to their methodology?

How big is the financial gap? If you have to incur a lot of debt for CMU, don’t - go to UMass. However, if you can swing CMU without too much difficulty, it really is on a different level from UMass, IMO, and though you certainly can find a good job if you do well at UMass engineering, just because they’re both ABET accredited doesn’t mean CMU won’t confer certain advantages, such as smaller classes, great undergrad research opportunities, excellent job placement, etc.
