ChemE vs. Computer Science

If anyone could help me with the following questions...

How is the current job market for both?
How will the job market be for the future? especially in the upcoming decade
What is the current salary for both?
How much is the job respected in today's society?

thank you

These should not be criteria upon which you base a career.

no sir, its not
but i just wanted some basic information

OK then... I can at least answer for chemical engineers

Market: if you go to a top school, the market will always be good for ChE's. Most students I know with 3.0+ GPAs get between 3 to 10 offers at graduation. The biggest downside is that the market for manufacturing is usually hot in limited areas (Texas, Iowa, rural Illinois, etc.). It's going to be tough to find a manufacturing position in a place like SF or NYC. If you want to leave traditional manufacturing, ChE's are one of the most highly recruited majors for law school, business school, medical school, and business consulting.

Future Market: surprisingly good. Granted the overall number of jobs are shrinking with off shoring, but most of the more technical engineers are close to retirement age creating a lot of opportunity. In addition, the US should see an increase in domestic energy production in the next few decades, which will create more demand for ChE's.

Salary: Starting salary depends on school and major. Lower tier schools start around $55,000 / yr, better schools range up to $70,000 / yr + bonus for a ChE with a B.S.

Respect: I think any type of engineering or science degree is pretty well respected. I wouldn't worry about that when choosing between the two fields.

Other: ChE is no joke as a major - it's generally considered on the most difficult BS degrees. Make sure it's really what you want to do before you get in too far.

Thank you very much sir
But by top schools do you mean top schools in chemE (because UCSB and Purdue @ West Laf, Indiana) aren't exactly top schools yet both of them rank in the top 15 for chemE.

thank you very much again
