chemical engineering colleges in ohio

I’m in my senior year of high school and plan to study chemical engineering. After visiting mulitple colleges in and around ohio, my home state, I’ve narrowed down to the University of Akron, Toledo, or Trine university in Angola, Indiana. I really like all three, especially Trine since it is small and offers lots of one on one attention. However, I do question it. I am still not sure how great Trine’s reputation is with employers. Also, I do not believe they have quite as strong of a Co-Op program as Toledo or Akron. The cost of Trine is much greater but they do offer lots of scholarships. I am wondering if any students have an opinion on which of these schools is the best option or possibly another college they felt I should really consider.

Both schools you have chosen have good programs. Toledo is probably better known for all its engineering programs, however, U of Akron is very well known for it’s Chem E especially in polymers. The University of Cincinnati has a very well regarded engineering program which like Toledo requires a co-op. Our D13 is a Chem E and when she was applying to schools we made her choose at least 1 instate school (Ohio). She chose to apply to Toledo as her Ohio safety over UC, and OSU (she ended up at Purdue). She really liked Toledo’s campus and specifically its engineering campus. One other school you might consider simply because they have engineering specific scholarships is Ohio University. They are not as well established as Akron for Chem E or Toledo or Cincinnati, however they were given $120M by the Russ family to improve and promote their engineering program. It was the least expensive option for my D back in 2013.

Another in-state option with good Chem E is U Dayton. Check the NPC and see how the price compares to Trine.

I second all the good things said about U of Akron. Their program/studies in ChE and polymers is hard to beat anywhere. And I always remind folks that the renowned Goodyear Research Center is situated on the campus of Akron. It’s a sweet life to be an engineering student at Akron. I also like Ohio University generally, but it is probably only the 5th best engineering school in the state of Ohio. Not a bad place but not as strong as the others at present.

nice tool to find ABET accredited engineering programs, you can filter by degree, state and type of engineering.
Others in OH are Case Western, Cleveland State, Ohio U, Miami U, OSU, Youngstown State
