Ok so I am a senior in high school who is applying to colleges in California. The problem is I need help on deciding what colleges to apply to. So far I have applied to San Jose State University however I have heard that it isn’t a good university since many people dont graduate on time. So I really don’t know what other colleges to apply to since San Jose was my first choice. I have a 3.7 weighted gpa ( just got a 4.2 for my first semester grades as a senior since we have block schdule), got 590 on math, 530 critical reading and 510 on writing. I also have over 300+ hours of community service so if you guys could help me out and recommend some colleges that I have chances of getting into would be great. I was thinking about San Luis Obispo too.
Senior grades are not considered for CSU/UC admissions.
SLO would be a Reach school based on your GPA and SAT scores. Why not consider UC Riverside, Cal State Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona? SJSU has a very good engineering department and location offers many job opportunities. Do not let the low graduation rate deter you if you like the program.
Goid luck

San Jose is very good.
Your bigger issue is your SAT score. Getting thru the needed math for ChemE is going to be an issue for you. If you don’t graduate on time, it will likely be because you have trouble with the math.
What is the highest level of math you’ve taken and what grades?
Of the CSUs, SJSU, CPP, and CSULB have ABET accredited chemical engineering. CPSLO does not.
@mom2collegekids I have calculus AB this semester and got a B last semester. And I am guessing you are talking about not graduating on time for college right?
Right.
When you commented about SJSU’s grad rate, that is often affected by students who “take longer” because they aren’t ready for college English or college Math.
In your case, your SAT math score doesnt’ square with your taking AP Calc. Why is that?
Don’t pay attention to anyone who says that engineering at SJSU isn’t any good. Nonsense. Ask Intel why it participates in career fairs at SJSU.
Well first off I was scared the whole time when I was taking the SAT test and I only took it one time. My parents aren’t letting me take it again because of money. I would pay for it myself but I mow lawns and its fall so not much of that anymore.
