Chemical vs Biomedical Engineering (*Biophysics)

Hi, I am currently a freshman in bioengineering. I am debating whether I should switch my major to chemical (biochemical) as apposed to staying with bio (biomedical). I am very interested in doing research so I'm planning on graduate school after I get my BS, but I probably won't do Biomed in grad school. The more math and physics I take, the more I see myself eventually going down the biophysics (molecular biophysics, computational biology, structural biochemistry, etc.) path for grad school. The only other path I could see myself taking is possibly optics (biophotonics, imaging, etc.) The reason I want to stay in engineering as appose to doing physics or biology is because the Eng degree is a great fallback if plans don't work out. I am tempted to change to ChemE because I know I will gain a better foundation in biochemistry etc, but I am hesitant to switch out of BME because I want to keep as many options open as possible... say if I decide I want to pursue a emphasis in optics. Also, I believe the strong background in Biology will be helpful. So basically I'm torn... Would it be a bad idea for me to switch at this point? Help me out with the pros and cons. I must decide relatively soon as there is coursework that I will need to catch up on if I switch.

Thanks in advance for replies.
