Chemistry a Must for Yale?

Is Chemistry required to get into top universities, especially Yale University? I'm a sophomore and for the next two years I'll take AP Biology and AP Physics, as well as AP Calculus. I wasn't going to take Chemistry because AP Chemistry isn't offered at my high school, and I'm already going to take more advanced classes. Is this going to hurt me?

Thank you

You're fine. I never took chem in high school (and AP Chem was offered at my school) and it didn't seem to hurt me.

My question is: what would you take instead and do you plan on a possible science major? The ultra selective schools place the greatest weight on an applicant's transcript: did he/she apply max effort at what was available. If you can show that your Sr yr sched is filled w/significant classes, the abs of chem might not raise any eyebrows. If there's a study hall and some other fluff courses, you MIGHT have someone doubt your willingness to push yourself. I'm not say that that doubt has any merit, however, given the rigrorous competition you're going against for a slot in New Haven, I would highly recommend that you not eschew chem.

If you're going to protray yourself as a Science major, then it's completely out of the question. It would be suicidal not to take chem in HS if you want to get into one of the ultra selectives.

Well, I'll be self-studying Chemistry, and I'll be taking more than the maximum of AP classes offered at my high school. I might be able to take Chemistry next year, but I was just asking in case my counselor can't change my classes.

Classes like Study Hall will definitely not be in my schedule.

Are you a Science major, svalbardlutefisk?

I'm not a science major, so perhaps that's why it didn't matter (like you though, I took AP Bio, AP Physics, and AP Calc BC). Regardless, the fact that you will be self studying it means that not taking the class won't matter even if you are planning to be a science major (as long as you report to Yale that you are self-studying Chem).

All right, thanks! I'll try to have Chemistry next year.

I would certainly take it...whether it's AP Chem or Chem 1, the subject is one of the most fun you will take, and relatively easy, too.

Wait.

Is chemistry that important? Im taking it this year and I absolutely hate it so I've decided to drop it next year for bio...

That wont hurt me will it?
