I want to go to vassar next year, but i am kind of worried about the chemistry department. as far as i know vassar is known mostly for humanities. How do you feel about the chemistry teachers there and amount of classes there are to select from? i am deciding between vassar, barnard and johns hopkins and i am not sure if vassar would be the smartest choice (even though i like it better, and i don't like hopkins that much) especially if i plan on applying to medical school.

my cousin told me that biology is their strongest pre-med department.
However, they also have chemistry…so I am sure that any science is great at vassar:)
I researched that 75% of vassar students(storng grades, MCAT,EXTRA) get accepted in med school. Vassar is AMAZINGLY strong to get into a med school.

Please respond to my bulliten too!
“Will I get in?..Need Advice!!”

You always have to visit the campuses. But in your case, you REALLY REALLY have to visit. The choices are so extreme. The JHU campus is lovely but parts of Baltimore are really scary. You have to drive down there and see for yourself. We were kind of shocked coming off I-95 and tooling through the city. Our friends (whose son attends) told us about a JHU student who was violently attacked by 4 gentlemen who jumped out of a car to rob him. When they realized he didn’t have any cash, they took his I-Pod , kicked him as he lay on the ground, jumped in the car and drove off. I like the idea of the “Vassar bubble.” People criticize it but I don’t want to have to worry every weekend about whether my kid is safe.

Yes, visit. Vassar Chemnistry is small but intense. Many of the pre-meds there and elsewhere seem to be into Bio-Chemistry these days.
