So I am taking 5 classes, 17 hours. (Chinese is 5 hours) They all look pretty okay to me, except for my chemistry 301 class with Mrs. Sutcliffe. Now I SUCK at Chemistry and barely got in A in high school, and I don't remember ANYTHING from Chemistry. Will the class be very difficult for me, do you think? I heard some people say Chemistry at UT was a piece of cake, and some others said it was really hard. :/ I'm unsure of the class and was debating on whether to drop it now or not.....since I have 17 hours and all. I was thinking maybe take it later on but if it's not to hard I thought maybe not drop it. :/ Any input from anyone who took the class?

Oh and I was never good at math and science btw.

Sorry if there is another thread like this btw!!!!!. XDDDD

I didn’t learn any chemistry (took it sophomore year) at my school and got an A for Chem I & II and in the lab lol. It’s pretty easy if you do the work (problems), and it looks like you have a good prof. So you should be fine.

Trust me. I thought chemistry would be a nightmare for me too. Turns out it wasn’t so bad. Never learned anything in high school chem lol. I didn’t know anything. xD

Sutcliffe is awesome. She’s British, a bad dresser and has an awful nerdy sense of humor. I actually found her class enjoyable, and it was nice to take naps sometimes at 8am listening to her soothing English accent.

That being said, her class is pretty typical of CH 301: lectures, weekly homework and multiple choice tests. I won’t say she’s hard – I would say she’s about average (course load and gradingwise) for a Chem prof, but just definitely pay attention and you should do fine.

BTW: As to reviews for professors, you can find students’ comments on the course load, homework, exams etc at any of the following:

They haven’t updated the website yet, but make sure you save it because it is somewhat helpful.

Taking 17 hours isn’t as bad as you think. I took 17 hours both semesters my freshman year and I still had time to hang out with friends, go to 4 football games, and do all the EC.

There is a waitlist for his class but if you email him directly, it may improve your chance of getting in his class.

There are nearly 500 people in his class but that is because he is one of the best, most entertaining profs at UT. He bends over backwards to give you a good grade for his class if you put forth the effort.

Approximately 65% of his class gets A’s or B’s.

If you want to get ready for Chem, you should use the learning modules in ALEKS Chemistry. They are available for six weeks after the date you bought the assessment. That’s why UT made students do ALEKS –> so incoming freshman will be more prepared for college and it will review basic skills and stuff.

This may sound dumb but…where is the Aleks test? I bought the test…for 50 bucks…but I don’t know where to go. I went to the Aleks website but it asks for a code to sign in and I don’t have one.

Dr. Laude is awesome! He immediately added me when I asked him to! That got me into emailing some other closed classes and I got into another class I wanted! XDDD UT has some nice professors. Haha.
