Chemistry emphasis vs Chemical Biology Emphasis

So everything went quickly and not planned. Yesterday I got an email stating I was unable to take Organic Chemistry 1 in the fall. The Organic Chemistry lecture and lab didn’t apply to my major or General Education requirements. The person who emailed me said I the only way for me to take ORGO 1 I had to change my major or don’t take ORGO at all. I decided to change my major to Chemistry because I had already taken chemistry courses already in the past. In meteorology, I never took a class based on weather there was a class in my community college but it was only online.

When I changed my major to Chemistry I had to pick an emphasis and that’s the title of the discussion. I’m wondering and debating if I should do the chemical biology emphasis. This emphasis I will have to take five biology courses including Gen Bio 1 and 2 (and its corresponding lab work) and genetics. With Chemistry Emphasis I will take calc 1-3 and physics 1-3 where the chemical biology I would only do calc 1-2 and physics 1-2. What you think would be good? I’m thinking chemical biology is for students who are interested in going to Premed and such, while the chemistry emphasis is for future work in graduate school.

Please, any advises will help.

Sometimes classes are restricted to only those in the applicable major for fall term, but they open the class (or a few seats in it) to all students in the spring. Is it possible that’s the case at your school?

Yes there are some classes that are restricted but that wasn’t the case. The person said I already have enough credits towards electives which say I couldn’t take organic chemistry as an elective if I was a meteorology major.
