First off, let me say that there are only 3 days of school left in this semester....then Winter Break. My dilemna:

I have a 50% in Chemistry (Honors) mainly because the teacher does not teach. And she gives our class worksheets every night. She even went as far as to give us a book report with 50 questions that was due in a week. I didn't do it....

So here are my options:

I can get a D or F, but I'll be able to retake the first semester of Chem online for a better grade (probably would get an A)....basically I could replace a failing grade with a much better grade.

or

I could work my a** off the rest of this weekend and next week to work on late work, maybe getting a C. However, doing this would keep me from studying for other classes' exams and would probably cause me to get lower grades in those classes. (I have 3 A's, 2 B's, and of course the F in chem).

What would you do? I really wouldn't mind taking a semester of chem over again. My parents want me to go for the C.

Colleges will see the F (maybe). F looks bad. One C is not going to kill you. One F may. Why didn't you just do all your work on time and play the system? High school is a joke if you just do what your teachers assign you and bs your way through the tests.

Yeah, for an honors class that is not even a lot of work. if your teacher doesn
t teach, ask more questions, ask friends, do something. if you're just gonna be lazy stop taking honors classes.

im sorry if i sound harsh but dont complain about the teacher if you're slacking.

Does your school list the F anyway? If so, go for the C. If not, see how much work the online class would be, and if it really would be something where you can get an A.

def. do the make up work. colleges will still see your F, which is really bad! also, you can't really blame your teacher for your grade when you're not doing the work. Sorry to sound so harsh, but you need to face the truth! :/

Right around finals time, I see many people in the same situation in my school. From my POV, I think you're lucky that you can even retake the first semester! However, I would advise going for the C b/c the others are right in that the F will still show up on your transcript.

Have you tried to explain the situation to your teacher? There is no excuse for slacking off, but maybe your teacher will feel some pity for you and give you a fluff assignment that will add 10 points to a major grade or whatever (a 10 is so much better than a 0).

This is what my chemistry teacher is doing, with the fluff assignment being a one-page report on the Food Network show Good Eats.

Talk to your teacher somehow. If she won't budge, study your head off for the C.

I don't think the transcript will show a F or D. I think that the A would replace the F, but I'm not totally sure. I mean, what would be the point of retaking it if the D would show on there no matter what?

Here is the email my mom got from my guidance counselor:

"Grade forgiveness is allowed only for D's or F's. If he earns a D or an F
in a class, he may retake it on FLVS or retake it at school to improve his grade. It must be the exact same class, however. If it is Chemistry
Honors, it must be Chemistry Honors to replace the old grade."

Notice how she says "replace".

The worksheets my chem teacher gives us are anywhere from 100-300 problems and she will give those every other night about. I don't have the time to do those because I usually spend most of my time on precalc and APUSH.

It will be really hard for me to get a C and my teacher says she doesn't bump up grades.

Okay, I better do that. She doesn't like me very much. I think it is because we had an arguement about me taking AP Govt., but she eventually gave in.

I really hope it would "replace" the other grade. Alot of students have retaken the second semester of Algebra 2 over the summer last year (and they are lazy students), so I'm thinking she is right. I'll check back with her though.

I really hate Chemistry right now. I wish it didn't exist.

Okay, so I found out that if I were to retake it, the new grade would REPLACE the old grade. Thank god. I'm taking my chem final tomorrow, so that should be interesting.

Oh, and GreenDayFan, Geometry is my favorite subject thus far (I like art too, which is weird because art people aren't usually good at math). Everyone made proofs sound like a nightmare, but they weren't hard for me at all.

Pre-calc, however, is a completely different story......I Christmas tree'd about 20 questions out of 65 on my precalc final today because I ran out of time. We weren't allowed to use a graphing calculator :( .

Yeah, no offense but 50 problems is not a huge deal---just suck it up and keep going. IT WILL BE OVER SOON! My chem h teacher gives us about 150 a night...and all we usually have time for in class is to check them/and her tests are insane, fill in the blanks, etc.

My global teacher last year...who in retrospect was fine...also made us outline every night, which I thought was horrendous, but now I'm proud I could do it
