Took the national exam today. MC was
alright, experimental was actually fun, free response was ridiculous-I bombed it.

I actually enjoyed the lab (:

@thenerdyjew wait. i thought 43 is usually the cut-off for honors? how would the cut-off for high honors be the same?

@ownzandy I think they see if you make the MC cutoff for honors then they check your Free Response portion for high honors. Usually it’s the top 70 people in the Free Response that make it to high honors or camp!

lab fun…wut…trolled so hard by first part

We had done a lab in my chem class quite similar to the first part, so the lab portion wasn’t too bad for me. And I found the second part pretty simple.

you guys wanna work together and put together an answer key on tuesday? i’m curious to see how I did on the mc and i’m sure many other people are also curious

@infrapr0ds I think an FR discussion would be more useful - but anything to pass the time while they grade them works for me haha.

But please, avoid talking about test questions before tuesday.

anyone here from the new york section who took it today? I’m curious to know if there were any CCers in my group XP

@Saelanares, right I know that’s why I said on tuesday

and yeah I took it at NY today

So FRQ doesn’t matter at all unless you make top 150?

Also is there partial credit for FRQ?

They don’t grade your FRQ if you did not score top 150 on MC. Most likely, partial credit is awarded, but it probably isn’t as lenient as AP partial credit lol

May the odds be ever in your favor :)

So based on gut feeling, and comparing this test to last year, where do you guys think top 150 cutoff will be?

We never actually definitively knew the cutoff for top 150 - but I’d say it would probably be ~43 again. The MC wasn’t much different from last year’s.

Question: On the ACS website, it says that top 50/150 will be announced before the top 20. Is this a mistake, as normally, the top 20 are announced first?

does making nationals even matter if i have a crappy local section (e.g. noncompetitive)?

Making nationals is definitely an accomplishment, however, not a noteworthy one in my opinion. Making top 150 is worth the recognition. Top 50 is an exceptional achievement.

So can we start discussing questions now?
