Chemistry Olympiad 2013!

@jzhang
No one can give you a great opinion b/c we don’t know how others in the nation did. But, I think anything 55+ and 90% as usual will make it.
Furthermore, even if your answers do match what we discussed, those graders are picky and will penalize you for the simplest of mistakes, at least from what I’ve heard from previous campers.
Best of luck to all.

Yea you’re also really borderline but I think that’s more top 50 range. Accepted values are 0.392 for Cu and 0.900 for Al, so you should be good as long as your procedure/everything was good and you did two trials or more. Lab 2, I did the same.

@jzhang15 FR is weighted more than MC … according to what people have said, you might make high honors?

I’ve done all the free response past exams, and did anyone notice how many freaking mistakes there are? Like I wonder if those mistakes were corrected when graders were grading the free response or if they were using a different answer key.

@wagawaga1 4 signals is what I’m leaning toward.

Thanks a bunch to all of you! If I don’t make it this year, I’ll just try again and study harder for next year. Best of luck to all of you too!

@Sophia7X, yeah there are a bunch of mistakes on past FRs … I would assume someone would catch them, but I’m not sure. Perhaps they’re either typos from transcribing previous exams or they just made a completely new answer key for each one (note that they don’t give any information on point values for most of them).

Hey i know their was some disscusion of it before but what do you think the cutoff for honors this year do you think it’ll be lower then normal?

I doubt it. This year’s test was not significantly harder than 2010’s, which is the year everyone uses for reference since we have actual results for that one.

Where does this take place?

And when does it take place?

It took place at designated locations throughout the country, last week. Furthermore, the qualification for it took place more than a month ago at participating high schools across the country.

Oh and for the record … you can always read the thread or search on google.

Oh my goodness. I which I heard about this before. I would’ve rocked this!

Camp calls often come out the Monday after the national exam… So who’s excited for tomorrow?

when will we find out honors/high honors?

@wagawaga1 “often” as in for the first time last year? :P

I hope calls do come out … but I’m more nervous than excited.

For those of you who did this last year, were the results for honors/high honors posted before or right on the date they said they would announce?

thought camp calls was first week of may? (even with last year??

Last year, camp calls were made on April 30th, the first Monday after the testing window. If they are on the same schedule this year, they would have finished grading all the tests this past weekend. I recall them posting honors/high honors before the published deadline. They tend to get most things done before the official dates…

made it…

Same I got a call at 11:30 :)
