Ok so my school does not know anything about entering in the chemistry olympiad. Is it too late to register for a local exam? When are they given, and how does one advance?

bump? anyone?

the local section exam is to be administered btwn. March 5th and April 2nd, but the final deadline for ordering the tests was Jan 28th. Worth calling them if you really want to do this, but it looks from the schedule as if you have missed the boat:

yeah my school has the 2 separate exams for Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry by these people sometime in march and usually our school sweeps the competition
1 senior last year who is going to MIT made the National team when he was a junior and senior and went to some international competition and got a silver medal and another guy who was a sophmore last year in AP Chem was ranked in the top 50 US Chem students but couldnt go with the national team b/c u have to make top 20
im only in honors so im hoping to be somewhere in the nationals next year

thanks guys. I am a junior right now..if I miss it this year, is it worth taking it next year?

sure! It will give you an idea of how you compare to other top students around the country. And even if you do not make it to the top-20 level, it is still worth something if you qualify for the next exam up.

my teacher submitted my name for the state-level because i was one of the top three scorers at my school. how do we know if we are a semifinalist? i know the system is different from that of the biology olympiad.

avocado - here's the schedule:
http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=education\student\cops2000.html

Thank you texas. However, I have already checked the schedule thoroughly, and I still do not know whether I have done anything significant to merit recognition (on say, applications) for this chemistry olympiad.

(see Caltech forum)

What's a competitive score for this?? I'd be lucky to break 30/60 on the MC section - this is our school's first year of doing this, so we really don't know what it's all about. I haven't studied or anything really for it other than AP chem prep.

Hey,
My teacher just told me that in order to compete, you must be a citizen. Is this true? I would appreciate a fast reply as the deadline for ordering tests is today!

bump.....................
