Im a high school student wondering whether it is more important to take IB Chemistry or IB Biology to ensure success at the pre-med sciences?

I would say biology, but it's important to have a strong background in chem, too.

both are pretty important for pre-med. However, bio is reallly important.

Bio would be more important for pre-med.

(sighs)

Okay. Speaking as somebody who's actually been through college as a premed and the first two years of medical school, here's the scoop. Doing well in chemistry in college is much more difficult and important than doing well in biology. However, the concern is that you don't want to skip over Intro Chem in college, and some colleges will force you to use whatever credit you have.

The reason chem is more important is easy to explain.

1.) It's harder.
2.) It's graded on a more difficult curve, generally.
3.) You take twice as much of it.
4.) They are approximately equal in number of questions on the MCAT, but general chemistry content is harder than biology content (or organic chemistry content).

You think so?

Yup. And I don't think it's close.

I think I could take both, but IDK. I didn't want to swamp myself with those two sciences. I'm leaning towards Bio because I heard it's easier, but Chemistry will be more important in the long run in college.

haha, this made my day (morning).

haha I just chose chem AP over bio AP and had the same issue. yay chem. I'll be a pre-med in college w/o any bio experience, save my 8th grade class. This is rich, and pathetic.
