Chemistry placement exam : required?

hi, i was wondering if taking the chemistry placement exam is required.
i took the ap chem test this year, and expect to get at least a 3 on it.
and even if i have to take the test, it's fine as long as i take the test prior to registering for classes, right?

it’s not required

I didn’t take chem ap and i have no intention in majoring in anything relating to chemistry. do I still have to take it. for the academic questionnaire thing I said I would take or they wouldn’t have let me move on to the next step and register for orientation. Can I back out? would it matter if I don’t take it.

@hanauma, it depends what college you were admitted to. Which one are you in?

random question…but is there summer homework for any classes? or is there usually no summer hw?

i’m wondering the same thing as the OP=[

A 3 on the Chem AP exam will only exempt you from Chem 4 (Pre-General Chemistry) and Chem 11 (Non-science major Chemistry)

A 4 on the AP exam will exempt you from 6A, and a 5 will exempt you from the entire General Chemistry (Science major Chemistry) sequence.

And as mentioned above, the placement test is not required.

@Eric884–there is homework for any/every class, its just a matter of whether you want to do it or not. Only Dr. Johnson (for the General Chemistry sequence) that I’m aware of awards points for completion of homework. (Very minimal though, probably accounts for just a percent of your grade)

FWIW, i think that homework is most beneficial to the student in the general chemistry and calculus series and maybe ochem up to a certain point. it’s the last time you’ll have professors relying heavily on the textbook; beyond that they just start throwing random things of [their own] personal interest at the students and the class material becomes more and more based on what they choose to present during lecture, not what’s featured in the textbook.

while that may make for more interesting lectures, it does necessitate that you’ll actually have to go to class. i used to spend the majority of my chem lectures ditching or reading for hum, but i’d catch up in the library every weekend and never fell behind.

I’m in muir

i hv the same question too. I’ve never taken Chemistry. Do I hv to take it? I might score 0%, which is very embarrassing. T_T
