Chemistry Placement Exam

In the next following weeks, I'll have to take the Chemistry Placement Exam. However... I don't remember much from Chemistry and will probably not do so swell on it. Is there anyone else out there that has an intended major in the sciences and are on the same boat as me?

im an engineer? and i bombed the chem placement exam…got a 40% >.>

Its not mandatory so I was just thinking of avoiding it

Not only is it not mandatory - the results are only suggestions, they won’t force you into a class based on the exam. If you took AP chem you’ll be placed into a class based on those results. Of the non-AP crowd, those who have had a decent chemistry program in high school go into chem 6A. Those who have had insignificant chemistry go into chem 4.

oh it’s not mandatory? hmm sigh of relief then… less pressure
I guess I’ll still take it to see where I’m at, which will be pretty low haha

thanks for your replies

I’m a little confused again, this link:
[Prospective Students: Chemistry & Language Exemptions](http://revelle.ucsd.edu/prosp-students/exemptions.html)
says I can’t enroll in a chem or foreign language course till after I have taken
the exams. So is it mandatory then or not?
Also if I were to take it, could I take it online and would I have to take the class the exam placed me in?

It doesn’t say anywhere that you can’t enroll without those tests.

@gswhoops

The thing says you need to take the exam before enrolling, but as others and myself have said, its not mandatory; its just to test your level of knowledge of chem so you dont “accidentally” enroll in a class thats too hard for you (ie. chem 4 vs chem 6A).

To take the placement exam, u sign in to My Tritonlink and take the test online. After that they will give u immediate results on which chem course you should enroll in (chem 4, chem 6A, or chem 6AH), BUT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THEIR RECOMMENDATION. Again it is merely a RECOMMENDATION, it does not force you to sign up for whatever course you got placed in; you can sign up for WHICHEVER course you want to.

Okay, thanks for the answer :)
