Can anyone provide information about the subjects covered on the placement exam for incoming pre-med students?

If you are asking about the optional exam before Chem I, you should speak to your advisor about it at your first session. My advisor told me it is an exam to see whether you are up to par in entering this class, but I’m not sure of the exact material. It must also be taken concurrent (i.e. same semester) as Calc I.

I did speak to my advisor about it. Don’t want to name any names, but he was not helpful - he didn’t know the exact subjects on it and could only tell me that it was multiple-choice and covered general high school-level chemistry. I am hoping for some insight on how in-depth the material goes and what specific subjects it covers. For example, is there any organic or nuclear chemistry on it? Electrochemistry? Thermochemistry? Do I have to review stuff like half-cells and calorimeters? Are the problems conceptual or do they deal with specific numbers?

I don’t recall high school chemistry covering organic or nuclear chemistry or any of that stuff? If you have any reservations about the class, do what I’m going to do; dust off the textbook and get to work. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s a big deal because the exam is not even mandatory.

Call the chemistry department and ask them?
