I'm taking the SAT II chem in January (aiming for 800) and was wondering if you knowledgeable persons could give me some advice for the test. Here are a few suggestions I have compiled from discussion with others:

1) memorize compound amu weights (which ones though?)
2) well...that's about it... besides no-brainers like skipping = ok
3) I NEED SPEED TIPS!!!

Also, I am a little confused as to TT answers in the second section. What is your criteria for determining whether the answer is just TT or TT CE? I understand the difference between the two, but taking practice tests with Kaplan has led me to the conclusion that nearly all TT are CE (75% of the time). This has been particularly frustrating; most of my wrong answers relate to this "trivial" facet of the test.

Also, how much redox was there on your test date? (complicated stuff like reduction potential...etc.)

Lastly, how many people take the SAT II Chem test in January? Do I have an edge in terms of the curve?

not too much redox was on there...learn ur atomic theory rele well, and crack the acid-base questions. the TT CE was a pain, i dont know the best way to deal with it...got an 800 tho.

know color of stuff burned, know redox, (not very many questions on it) know the ideal gas law and when it does not apply, know your stoich, know your molarity stuff ie-titration, dilution...etc, know formuals of general things like hydrocarbons....

i second acid-base, that came up quite a bit...if you can't afford it, don't waste time on things like lab procedures. Bonding, basic bond angles, periodicity. Basic stoich.

the test is not impossible to finish...i went too slowly though and had to omit 3 questions....just read and answer. skip around to do the ones you can do off the top of your head...that helps.
