Chemistry TAP

Quick question,

UCLA general chemistry major - not impacted (57% admittance) 3.59 avg gpa

How competitive does TAP make me if i have a 3.5 GPA

I got into biochemistry (impacted, avg gpa 3.77) with a transferable gpa of like ~3.5 or something missing a few prereqs. Im not TAP, I didnt even know what it was when I applied. So you’ll be fine with a 3.5 in gen chem as long as you have most of the prereqs done and have good grades in those classes. TAP is probably excessive, but if you want that slam dunk then go for it. However, make sure you focus on A’s in the prereq classes.

i will be missing 5 pre reqs out of 11. (i can take 2-3 over the summer before transferring however i dont think they look at that.)

with a 3.89 gpa in my prereq courses.

my friend just got accepted to ucla for gen. chem with a 3.8, no tap, igetc not completed, and missing 5 pre reqs.

so you think im in good standing? i also have upward trend grades and great work exp/EC

I was missing 2nd semester ochem (which is 3 classes for them) and two bio classes so I think thats 5 depending on how you look at it. I’d apply but it would be hard to know if you’ll get in since you have a bunch of prereqs missing. It could go either way but given that your friend got in I’d say you have a good chance.

I took 3-4 prereqs a semester for the last year and a half and I practically burned out by the end. I definitely wouldn’t recommend that in the summer even if they did look at it (they don’t).

The easiest thing to help would be if you can finish IGETC by spring.
The worst that happens is your out the $60 and have to stay the extra year. But then youll be done with the prereqs so you’ll be in the next year. Just apply, write a legit personal statement, and hope.
