Chemistry vs Chemical Engineering

Well I am hoping to get into med school but I am having a hard time choosing which I should major in for college.

What is the difference?

Is one a lot harder than the other? GPA wise?

Job/ salary prospects if I don't get into med school?

please answer all 3, I know some people might just answer the 3rd question but I really need answers to all of them.

Chemistry is a science geared towards the study of chemical reactions and processes.
Chemical Engineering is engineering with chemistry for background. It focuses on manufacturing, design, process optimization, heat transfer subjects associated with industrial processes.

Chem engineering is more difficult. There are more classes that require high level mathematics and complex problem solving. For chemistry you mainly just have to get through 1 year of Pchem (quantum and thermo).

Chemistry job prospects suck. Expect $12 to 18 per hour and no benefits as companies often only hire through temp agencies and keep you as a permatemp.

Chemical engineering. The salary is much better I’d say $50-60k to start. However it is a declining field as manufacturing and chemical plants decline in the USA.

Neither. Finance.

About 20k of starting salary straight after undergrad.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering, but like sschoe2 said, ChemE jobs are on decline.

Either way you will regret what you have majored if you don’t have passion and drive in it.
