So after perusing ratemyprof.com or whatever it is, I've found that the professor for Gen chem 2070 is absolutely terrible. Would it be better to switch to honors 2150 (would the prof be any better) or would the extra work make it just as hard?

Ok, so I’m definitely contemplating the switch… the median for honors is a 3.3, where as for regular it’s a 2.8/2.9, respectively. I’m a premed, so prep for the MCAT is definitely important to me. I am a bio major, but am strongly considering the biochem track. I got a 3 on the AP exam, but that’s because I didn’t study at all (didn’t even pay attention in the class) and didn’t really even try on the test. Definitely could’ve gotten a 4 or 5 had I actually tried.

Which one should I go for? My class times won’t be quite so awesome if I switch, but I’d rather wake up a little earlier and get a better grade if it’ll work out.

207/8. nothing in learn in chem 216 is on the mcat. the kids in 207/8 are worse in chemistry than 215/16 so dont just take the low median as its harder to do better. if your like me, by the time you take the MCAT, you’ll remember absolutely nothing from chemistry class (or any other class).

Did you have Zax? From what I’ve read he’s terrible. How true is it, and does it affect how well you do in the class? How hard is 2070/2080?

Chem 215/216 is harder than Chem 207/208. You will get pwned.

Really?

So I’m assuming it’s better to just suffer through Zax’s class?

Intro Chem isn’t too difficult if you have some experience with chemistry and actually understand what a molecule, atom, electron, etc. are. Lecture is relatively pointless, and reading the textbook is enough in most cases.

who is Zax…

Hmm. I guess I don’t see why it would be so difficult. I guess if I can’t stand it I’ll switch in honors.

Do they use clickers in 207?

yes but clickers dont count towards grade unlike in intro bio. and even if you can just switch to honors it wont be an easy switch. they wont just put you into honors when you are on the regular track…

yeah they use clickers but not for attendance

what is a clicker?

[What is a Clicker?](http://www.iclicker.com/dnn/Abouticlicker/WhatisaClicker/tabid/143/Default.aspx)

wait… they use those for grading in some classes? that sounds awful. or great.

So for chem, the clicker is just a learning tool? No grades, no attendance?

I think I’m just gonna stick it out… My schedule is beautiful right now and if it’s the easier class, hopefully my GPA will thank me for pulling through it.

yeah its just a “learning tool”… or more see-how-badly-the-prof-is-teaching tool. its used for attendance and is part of your grade in many classes though, including biog 1101/1102.

The reason why Chem 2160 is not at all on the MCAT is because Chem 2150 is more of a second semester course (analogous to Chem 2080) where all of the material in Chem 2070 is assumed knowledge or will be gone into more depth in 2160.

2150 is Thermo, Kinetics, Electrochemistry, Equilibrium.
2160 is all Quantum Mechanics.

I heard that if we take Chem 2070 in the spring, we get a different professor. Is this true? Should one choose to do so if one wants to be a pre-med student?

oh man, zax is beyond terrible

they don’t offer 2070 in the spring, just 2080 (which is with a different prof)
