Cherubs

if you were a cherub (aka spent the summer in the national high school institute program) does it help your chances of getting into northwestern?

anyone at all who's familiar with National High School Institute?? Cherubs???

i know what it is, and regret not having taken the chance to apply for that, but i have no clue what it does for a current NU applicant who has done it. sorry :P

just a guess, but i think it wouldn't really affect your admissions except for the fact that you've been to the school and have an idea of what it's like there. just like with any summer school program..

Apparently, Cherubs grads do have a better admissions rate to NU, according to a close family member of ours who is an alumni interviewer. She did, however, state that this only applies to ED candidates. Hope this helps!

My D atteneded the theater Cherubs program two summers ago and it was a life-changing experience. I would highly recommend it. BTW...she also got in ED and is currently a freshman. The program helped her realize that she definately wanted to go to Northwestern!

I can see why Cherubs helps ED in a big way but doesn't help at all in RD. You know what you are talking about when you argue how/why Northwestern is your first choice. You have a stronger case than others. On the other hand, if you have been to Cherubs but go with RD, it appears to adcom that you like Northwestern but also have reservation; this applies to every RD of course but the difference is you have a more concrete idea on what's holding you back from going through ED at the first place and the adcom is aware of this. Others don't want to commit because of unfamiliarity and it's natural; your decision is a more calculated one.

I wonder if this is analogous to dating. If you've been dating and hanging out with someone for quite a while (Cherubs) and that person still doesn't want to be comitted to anything serious, what do you think of the possiblity of a more serious relationship in the future? It's probably no better than with someone you just started dating. In fact, some may argue it may be worse! ;)

yeah, i did cherubs last summer and it was absolutely amazing. i was just wondering if it would help me in admissions. i didn't apply ED because i wasn't sure if i wanted to dedicate myself to a particular major. i really hope they let me in! thanks for all your help.

Does anyone know anything about the Film Cherubs program? My D was a theater Cherub and loved it. My S is a HS junior and is interested in Northwestern. He wants to go into film and has done several other shorter summer film programs.

Which is the better/more prestigious program? Which one helps your chances at undergraduate admission to highly selective colleges? Does theatrebridge give students an edge to getting into brown like cherubs helps you get into northwestern?

My son was a theatre cherub a couple of years ago, and has said that he thinks it absolutely helped him get in. And he applied RD. This could be because he could so easily articulate his reasons for wanting to attend NU. I get the sense that for theatre applicants, since it is a non-audition program, the fact that a student was a cherub has to have an impact.

My son was a theatre Cherub, applied ED, and is now a freshman. There are ~20 kids from his Cherub group who are now freshman at NU. This seems to be a bit of a pattern recently-about 20 kids or so with Cherub “experience” matriculate as freshmen. It certainly shows your interest in the craft, but you still need the academics to get into NU.
