<p>I'm starting my senior year, and after looking through schools, UChicago is at the top of my list. </p>

<p>SAT: 2010 (710 Reading, 720 writing, 580 math)
I realize my math score is really crappy atm. I'm gonna retake in oct, but I don't think I could get more than a 640. Also, I hear they don't look at the writing, so that leaves me with a 1290. Ouch.</p>

<p>My GPA has climbed from a 3.0 in Freshman, to a 3.5 in Sophmore, to a 3.8 in Junior. All UW. My highschool is a division of Bard College; we end up getting an associates degree upon graduation. There's no weighting because virtually all the classes are APs. We graduate with an associates degree (if this helps at all, because its hard as hell). </p>

<p>This year I'm taking:
Cal 1
Enviormental Geoscience
Novels of Tolstoy (we're reading War and Peace <em>gulp</em>)
Sophmore Seminar (we read Communist Manifesto, Origin of Species.. etc)
Creative Writing</p>

<p>My EC's are really, really pathetic. I've focused more on volunterring than on clubs and teams:</p>

<p>-Science Club
-Current Events Club
-Gamers Club</p>

<p>-Writing Tutor (Couple of hours a week in school, varied by week)</p>

<p>-South Street Seaport Museum Internship (100 hours+)
-Volunteered for a Sailing program for Blind Children (100 hours+)
-Archeology Volunteering on a Hopi worksite (250 hours+)
-Habitat for Humanity on a Lakota reservation (250 hours+)
-Internship at the Museum for the American Indian (100 hours+)</p>

<p>My recommendations are good. I have a Latin/Classics Professor who used to teach at Columbia writing me one, and my Physics teacher writing the other (both have PhDs, which probably doesn't mean anything, I just need to have everything going for me that I can heh). </p>

<p>My essay is weird. Probably weird enough for UChicago. I wrote my own prompt. If anyone would be willing to read it that would be great.</p>

<p>Lastly, I'm Columbian, so I guess I have that whole URM thing going for me.</p>

<p>I assume my chances are pretty poor with a mediocore GPA, lower than average SATs and iffy ECs. Can anyone chance me up or make some recomendations? Thanks a lot.</p>

<p>Your ecs look very interesting, actually. Not many high schoolers have volunteered on a dig or have a background in sailing. Your GPA isn't bad, and it'd good that you're taking challenging classes (Chicago won't be easier). Your SAT is a little low, but you're retaking it. An excellent essay will help a lot, I think. Try to get an interview; they're fun.</p>

<p>Great ECs, Great GPA, Hard classes, write a good essay and you're in.</p>

<p>Appreciate the comments, I really wasn't expecting such a positive outlook. Would anyone be willing give my essay a quick read? I'm not sure if it's exactly what they're looking for (I used #5 and wrote my own prompt).</p>
