What's the difference between these two?

Also the admissions office has been sending me the Chronicle in the mail. Has any one received this subscription too?

mmm, significant difference.

Chicago Chronicle is published by the U of C Public Relations people. It's a newspaper with only good news in it. It's quite interesting.

The Chicago Maroon is a student-run paper, running both things laudatory and critical about the school.

The Chronicle is more for alumni (and is thus a bit more like propaganda), and the Maroon is directed more towards students.

Yes, I have received 3 issues of the Chronicle. I find it uninteresting to read.

I've been getting the Chronicle...I like it. It's cool to see what's going down in Chi-town. (yes, I rhymed and you liked it) I kinda spazz out whenever it comes in the mail. I love UChicago.

^^Yeah same here! But I wish there were more references to the lives of undergraduates.

Read the Maroon online! Newly revamped website-- it's a little web 2.0, but still sparkly:

Chicago Maroon

Of the regular publications:

The Shady Dealer is basically the onion for campus. It comes out every month-or-so, and is awesome. No site.

The Chicago Weekly is a UChi student paper published with help from NewCity, an Arts weekly. It is campus news/politics/criticism and greater south-side culture stuff. They are chicagoweekly.net

The Maroon is a much more comprehensive newspaper, and twice as frequent, but it is also known to take somewhat extreme positions on both sides editorially, and misrepresent touchy issues. Most people I know read it, most don't take it too seriously. The weekly covers less and is read less, but is a somewhat more reliable paper.

There are also countless less frequent publications, litmags, critical journals, political journals, Korean poetry journals, photo magazines...

Thanks for the info guys! I'll be sure to check out the Maroon online.

I've been getting it in the mail, too . . . it makes me :-) . When I got the first issue I was like ??? Are they sending these to all the EA accepteds? It seems like a ton of paper and postage, but I'm glad they do it. :-)
